I am currently sitting at my computer. I’m not exactly sure why I’m here. I simply clicked on “new post” and decided to sit. And receive. Weird? I used to think so, and the logical part of my brain still thinks so, but my soul tells me, “no.” Not weird at all. It’s seems natural. And in that natural, He brings the super. Together, this simple step of obedience becomes supernatural.
Ever experienced this before? Do tell! These stories are oh so fun! I received a text from my husband today about a facebook status he posted. You see, his Daddy heart wanted to provide for his princess 1.0. His love for music is a close second to his love for his children. He was determined to get tickets for a certain young female artist. And he just couldn’t do it. The price was a tad bit ridiculous. And with his much loved humor, he “vented” on facebook. And he was so surprised by the number of responses.
I wasn’t surprised. People love a break from the seriousness of life. Laughter is so good for the soul. A topic that many can identify with, coupled with satire of wittiness, equals the birth of the joy intended for our lives. I have found myself in this place of seriousness as of late. With my good intentions of keeping the details of family life flowing, while balancing full-time teaching, AND having more than a nod and grunt towards my husband at the end of the day, I needed this too. In fact, I think I’ve WANTED it, just too busy with my nose to the grind.
As we approach this time of year when families gather, food is eaten, and fellowship is shared, I’m tempting to press in even harder to my God. I’m attempting to give Him my firsts, not my leftovers. I’m greeting Him first in the morning, not greeting my agenda. I’m reading His Word before I get on-line to “check” anything. I’m asking MORE questions in front of my children, with both my eyes making eye-contact. I’m letting some tasks go and prioritizing sleep. I’m telling you, my mind is much less foggy, and my body has more energy, go figure?! And instead of whining, I’m praying for an opportunity for parts of my “former season” (i.e. girlfriend time) to have a time slot.
Guess what? He made a way. Of course. Basketball practice was cancelled this evening. I was highly encouraged by my husband to attend a girlfriend gathering. It was perfect. It was just what I needed to refuel and to take a bite out of the lighter side of life – the abundant life He so graciously affords… if we choose to see it.
Psalm 31:19
How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.
Lord, thank you for being so gracious. I appreciate the way you allow me to process in a honest and healthy way. You provide opportunities to allow time to chisel me into the masterpiece you have designed since the beginning of time. The way you love me is beyond my understanding, and yet you love me anyway, both now and for eternity. I praise your name and I thank you for your gifts extended daily. Thank you for forgiving me when I pout. Thank you for directing me back to your truth. Thank you for breathing new life into each new day. Happy early Thanksgiving!
1 Timothy 1:14
The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
